On Daniella Lehavi's new branding, the history of monograms, and the new symbol

Today, we unveil a new monogram, a symbol of exclusivity that ushers in a new era while maintaining our cherished continuity.

This unique monogram, a fusion of the D initial in Daniella Lehavi's name, intricately interlocked to create a graphic element that evokes the imagery of buckles or clasps (depending on the viewer), is a testament to our commitment to innovation and tradition.

The monogram, a symbol steeped in history, has been used as an ornament for centuries. It typically consists of interlaced letters, often the initials of a person, organization, or institution, and serves as an identification mark or logo (Wikipedia). Its origins can be traced back to ancient times, starting with the marking of coins, and continuing through history, adorning items of individuals, businesses, and even modes of transportation, ensuring the rightful ownership of items in public spaces. In the 19th century, monograms made their foray into fashion with luggage and leather goods companies like Louis Vuitton and Goyard, becoming the symbolic capital of those who purchased luxury goods, a testament to their ownership and status.

When Daniella Lehavi started designing handbags, she didn't want her name plastered all over her items. So, she created the original monogram - dl - her initials and reflected the modesty in branding her products. She designed a small monogram, which was synonymous with her for years. At some point, she was told that everyone was referring to her items as "Daniella Lehavi's," so the monogram was replaced with a logo featuring her full English name - Daniella Lehavi.

But like any fashion house, the moment for this change has now arrived: out of a desire to be updated on the one hand, and on the other hand to maintain tradition and values. That's why we are proud to launch the new monogram of Daniela Lehbi - a new symbol that expresses the aesthetics, luxury and craft that are the basis of our fashion house. The new monogram is a new interpretation of the beloved monogram that Daniela designed herself, dl, and we thought of giving it a new life with a design that fits the spirit of the times and our values.

The result is a new monogram with timeless values, a re-charting of Daniella Lehavi's place in contemporary life: a monogram that is an almost abstract graphic play on the brand's first initial on the one hand, with new connotations of clasps and buckles and an appearance that maintains luxury and craftsmanship. It's a renewed iteration of the logo, and we're already incorporating it into the new collection dedicated to the monogram.

We created the collection in collaboration with the JAFFA HOTEL, a luxury hotel in a late 19th-century Renaissance building in Jaffa, embodying our connection to this place, tradition, and timeless beauty. On every item in the new collection - woven straw bags combined with leathers and two pairs of thong sandals - the new monogram is emblazoned, stamping our mark and becoming the new fashionable hallmark of Daniella Lehavi. We know you'll fall in love with it too, as we do.
